Oatmeal Butterscotch Lactation Cookies

Ingredients

2 Tablespoons   Flax Seed Meal
2 Tablespoons   Water
½ cup                    Butter
½ cup                    Sugar
½ cup                    Brown Sugar (firmly packed)
1                              Egg
½ teaspoon        Vanilla
1 cup                     Flour
2 Tablespoons   Brewer’s Yeast
½ teaspoon        Baking Soda
½ teaspoon        Salt
1-1/3 cup             Old Fashioned Oats (not quick oats)
½ cup                    Butterscotch Chips (optional)

Directions

1.       Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

2.       Mix the Flax Seed Meal and Water; let it set for 3 minutes

3.       In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugars well.

4.       Add vanilla, and flax seed mixture; mix well.

5.       In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients (flour, brewer’s yeast, baking soda, and salt)

6.       Add the dry ingredients to the mixing bowl; mix well.

7.       Stir in oats & butterscotch chips.

8.       Spoon mixture onto baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes.

What is Power Pumping?

Power Pumping is a trick exclusive pumpers use to increase their breast milk supply.  The process mimics what is called cluster feeding if you were breast feeding.  A Power Pumping session will signal to your body that it needs to make more milk. So how do I do it?

1. Start pumping like you normally would for a pumping session (same settings).
2. Pump for about 15 minutes.
3. Turn your pump off and take a break for 5 minutes.
4. Turn your pump on and pump for 10 minutes.
5. repeat steps 3 and 4 until it been 1 hour since you started pumping.

I personally like to do this watching a favorite one hour tv show, it makes the time past faster.  And to eliminate watching the clock, I pump the first 15 minutes and then use commercial breaks as my time to turn off the pump.

You'll want to use your power pumping session in place of a normal pumping session.  I'd recommend doing this once a day for a week and you should notice an increase in your milk supply.  I've had many moms tell me they think they get better results in the morning if they do their power pump in the evening or as the last pump before bed - no scientific reasoning for the timing but hey it's worth a shot!

One of the many reasons Moms quit breastfeeding is their milk didn't come in right away and their baby was hungry - so they give up on the breast. Sometimes it may take up to a week or longer for a woman's breast milk to come in and their breasts to become fully engorged. It is a stressful time trying to learn the new skill of breastfeeding (for both mom and baby) and create a consistent schedule for your breast while your baby is crying and hungry. However, if you express your breast milk on a consistent schedule (try 15 minutes every 3 hours) your milk will become consistent to that schedule, after a few days your breasts will be filling like clockwork! Many woman who use a breast pump, also breast feed - if you're baby is hungry when it is your time to pump go ahead and breast feed instead of pumping.
